Fibrin degradation products are protein fragments released when a blood clot develops. PDF direct measurement provides information on the activity of fibrinolytic’s syst.

PDF are monomers (A, B, C, D, E, X and Y) of the resultant degradation of the fibrin polymer. Normally, these products are removed from the circulation by the liver and reticuloendothelial system.

FPA is released into the bloodstream after cleavage of α and β chains of fibrinogen to fibrin.

Prothrombin fragment occurs in secondary hemostasis after thrombin conversion.

Indications

– Disseminated intravascular coagulation or another primary fibrinolytic disease

– Evaluation of the fibrinolytic system operation

Normal values

PDF <10 mg / l

FPA: Women – 0.7 to 3.1 mg / mL; Men – 0.4 to 2.6 mg / mL.

Prothrombin Fragment: 7.4 to 103 mg / mL.

Interpretation of results

Interpretation of results

Low levels ↓: anticoagulant therapy.

↑ Increased levels: High levels of fibrin degradation products may indicate primary or secondary fibrinolysis which may be generated by:

thrombosis, embolism, disseminated inravasculară coagulation, vascular surgery, postoperative stage neoplasms avant-sat, severe inflammation , Gram-negative sepsis, severe trauma, liver / kidney problems, obstetric complications (preeclampsia, ab-ruptio placentae, intrauterine death) deficiency, protein C / S deficiency prothrombin III.
